Atlantic effect - La Palmyre Golf Club

Atlantic effect - La Palmyre Golf Club

Even a non-golfer would consider this something of a dream location – and if you happen to be a golfer, then it’s obviously a very nice place indeed to be able to refer to as your club. Which makes it all the more surprising that it first opened its doors as recently as 2009...

The Course

There are 9 holes, totalling over some 2,892m, with a par of 36. The setting throughout is incomparable but, lest you get too distracted, along the way the designer has wisely retained just enough of the site’s natural billowing undulations to focus the players’ attention on rising to the resulting technical challenges. A round here will present golfers with a surprisingly varied and entertaining succession of holes to master.

Golf Lessons

La Palmyre’s Golf Academy employs a personalised teaching method which allows novices to develop their technique in ways best suited to their own natural aptitudes. Lessons are also available for more seasoned golfers wishing to perfect their technique – and if you’re less than confident in your language skills the Academy’s two pros offer tuition in French or English. Young future golfers also have their very own Kids’ Academy, open to 3 to 20 year-olds.

Also on site

As befits a dynamic, modern club, training/practice facilities are state-of-the-art, and include a 34-tee (10 of them covered) driving range with 14 Power-Tee automatic ball-feed systems. There’s also a grass training area, fairway simulation zone and more besides.

Clubhouse: Le Rhino’s Club (La Palmyre’s famous zoological gardens are sited nearby) offers everything from snacks and sandwiches up to an à-la-carte restaurant menu – fresh Atlantic oysters too, if you wish. Naturally, there’s a bar for coffee, soft drinks, cocktails, etc. (plus Champagne, should you have something to celebrate). Wedding receptions, garden parties, cabaret evenings and other events can be catered for. You’ll also find a well stocked pro-shop-style boutique offering the latest items by world famous brands, plus gifts, souvenirs and regional produce.
Not surprisingly, in view of the desirable golf-meets-the-ocean location, there’s some striking property development under way, featuring a limited number of spacious villas and duplex lofts in mature, wooded settings and styled along contemporary west-coast lines. They’re set for completion in late 2013/14 and you’ll find full details at www.lapalmyreresort.com.

Overall

Clearly this youthful golf club is destined to appeal to those who consider the quality of the setting and its wealth of nearby attractions to be of at least equal importance to their game. And as you’ll soon discover, small really is (very) beautiful.
